A long night turned into a great rainy run during work today
Was having a great day yesterday - it was my scheduled REST day and I took full advantage of that. With the exception of heading to the running store I pretty much relaxed at home all day.
Was a perfect night last night so I sat out by my fire table and enjoyed reading a magazine and just relaxing. The wind was creating some cool shapes with the flames so I took some photos and created a collage with an app on my phone. The middle photo - looks like a candle on the left hand side doesn’t it?

Anyway - after sitting out by the fire for a bit I went in and watched Extreme Weight Loss Edition. When it was over got up to head to bed and my dog Skylar (who is slowly losing his battle with lymphoma) was coming up the stairs from the family room and his legs gave out and he slid down them in terror on his stomach. The lymph nodes in his throat are really large and some days they are much harder than others and when that happens he breaths a bit like Darth Vader. He pants most of the time now a days, but that is a side effect of the steroid he is on. So he starts panting and breathing with a really struggled blocked wind pipe sound worse than ever before because he was all freaked out. And that was the start of a long night as I pretty much woke up hourly to keep checking on him.

Sometime during the night I also got a headache behind my eye and my stomach was all in knots (stress from Skylar and problems I knew I was going to face at work today) so when the alarm went off at 5am - I wasn’t feeling good at all. I showered and hoped that would help the headache etc but no luck so at 5:30 I texted my fellow runners that I just wasn’t going to make it.
I get ready and head to work but I did pack a bag with running gear as I figured if I was feeling better as the day went on I would run.
Well of course my headache didn’t go away when I got to work and had issues to handle. But after my meetings myself and my co-worker Sam headed out for that 3 miles I needed to get in. As we were about to take off it started to drizzle (the old me would have immediately used that as an excuse not to run) but off we went. Not a block or two in and it was full on raining with a little thunder but it somehow made the run more fun.
Sam has only been running on his own for maybe a year or so - but usually runs faster for shorter distance. He will do a mile to mile and half and then just walk until he gets to 3 miles. I am not as fast and he wanted to take advantage of that to pace himself and see if he could do the full 3 miles.
The first mile out was sub 12min which is great for me and then the other two miles I slowed down as is usually the case. But I was cool with the overall time and Sam ran the entire distance. So all in all it was a great run for many reasons and it actually helped with the head ache and to release some of the work stresses (but just some).
In case you were wondering - Skylar is doing much better today and continues to eat like a champ so until that changes I am just trying to make him enjoy the time we have left together.
NOTE to lindsaydoeslife - see how I got work and working out into this one post - that was all for you!!
